Are We, In Porn, Contributing to Online Misogyny?

The truth behind it all!

Recently I have been reading several articles on women and the abuse they receive from trolls on the Internet. Women in Journalism, Music, Technology, Adult and in all walks of life that participate in social media are often verbally abused with misogynistic comments.  The  comments range from comments along the lines of “oh you are a cute and pretty girl” to horrific comments that speak of extremely violent sexual acts perpetrated against them. There are some very high profile and well documented cases of this online. Gamer Gate and Lauren Mayberry’s talk at Google are two the come to mind.

So here is my question … As pornographers,  whether you are performer or a producer are we contributing to this online abuse of women?

As a man that is married to and have grown up with smart and powerful women and a big supporter of equal rights for women, I am very conflicted on this topic. On one hand I am a producer that treats every woman I shoot with the utmost respect. I never try and trick women into doing things they do not want to do, I always give the women the right to say “stop” in my shoots and I never allow the guys in my shoots to go farther that what is agreed to ahead of time for the scene. However, on the other hand when promoting my content I do use misogynic phrases and ideas, let’s be real, that is what the customers want to read and buy.

However, I do also believe that many women in pornography are extremely independent, strong minded and control their own lives. I personally know and have interacted with lots of women in the business that run their own properties as independent business women and in some cases employee lots of people. I do believe you can be man or woman in porn and also be a feminist and for the equal rights of women.

But we must ask ourselves, are the scenes that we create and promote teaching younger men that abuse of women is OK?  Many young men now in their late teens and early twenties have grown up watching women used in every way possible in porn.

I am interested in your thoughts on the subject.

Gamer gate was nothing to do with misogyny.

In this business you have to learn to have thick skin FAST!People can choose to perceive Porn as they wish. But who cares? We are here for entertaining purposes and first and foremost MONEY.

i think it totally contributes to misogyny. I mean we're portraying violent and rough fantasies that suggest that women enjoy being treated this way especially during sex, which isn't always the answer. As a seasoned camgirl/amateur porn star and PSO, I'm continuously disgusted  and appalled by the requests that some guys ask or the fantasies they have . At the same time, I'm kind of glad i can be an outlet for them b/c to meet these guys on the street would be scary . I get a lot of "i'm gonna fuck  you til you scream." Scream? really? Soooo are you raping me then? because people don't "SCREAM" during sex unless they're being raped. It's kind of messed up for real . I mean what kind of message are we sending to men that makes them think it's okay to do this stuff  to women in real life or that this is what us women enjoy. At the same time, we as entertainers deliver their fantasies on camera or thru text or phone .It's a double edged sword.

Violet ... you nailed it. We are teaching men and especially young men that grew up with Tube sites that all this stuff is "normal".  However, in real life sex is much different.  We are creating a fantasy and that hopefully young men realize that.  That "fuck you until you scream" my wife gets also and she just laughs because she knows it is a guy living out a fantasy. But I get ya'.

This is the problem: no real, open, honest sex education from mainstream creates a void that eventually ends with fantasies turning into de facto education. Young men could as well be educated (influenced) from a cougar, dominant female perspective. True that intellectual porn, or romantic porn for women won't sell but it will as the trends turn. Remember the 1980s when the bush used to be normal and bald pussy a fetish?
