People say that porn is degrading and exploitative to women. I say NAY, porn is the great equalizer. It is the anti-media.

Commercial media has for decades standardized and narrowed the images of beauty to whatever form best sells the products of the time. Modern marketing has done this to such a degree that it has caused a cultural rift in which we differentiate "real women" from women that happen to fall into that narrow window of commercial "beauty". It is seriously sad that we've come to praise a company for casting "full figured women" as being progressive. This is not a step forward. It's standing in the same spot. Telling women they're not attractive unless they look a certain way is not worse than defining "real women" from... any other kind of women. It's the same mind game just rebranded.

But while mainstream media divides women, porn (and specifically webcam and sites like ManyVids) does the opposite. They create forums where women can express themselves, and their sexuality, freely regardless of body type and interpretation of sexual norms. A place that where models and performers can find their audience and be admired and desired as they are. Thin, thick, melons, plums, dark, light, sweet, crude; they're all sexy, and they're all sexy to someone. In porn, there are genres of content, but there are no defined boundaries of what is attractive. There's no one telling you that only one thing is sexy.

Sure there's a dark side to the adult industry, but there's a dark side to the baby wipe industry. Corruption comes hand in hand with profit, this is human nature. People certainly haven't stopped buying iPhones despite the poor working conditions in Chinese factories. People can demonize porn all they want but the reality is that the modern porn industry is not the male run sex factory that it was in the 90's. With a cellphone or webcam and an internet connection, models are now in complete control of their careers. They decide what they do, how they do it, where they put it, and they cash the checks.

ManyVids—in my opinion—is on the forefront of modern porn. Not only does it provide a safe platform for girls (or really anyone) to independently produce, market, and sell their own content. It houses hands down, the most diverse line-up of performers and content anywhere. It is truly refreshing to see content typically relegated to dark poorly designed sites and niche corners of the web treated brightly, joyously, and equally. Of all the industries that revolve around modeling and selling sex in some form, porn is arguably the least exploitative and most empowering to women. Porn embraces all women. From the silicone and collagen Barbies to the tatted and pierced Alt girls. Pastel Daddy's girls or black leather Dominatrixes, tiny or BBW; all are welcome and all have an audience. You will never see as diverse a lineup of body types and personalities in Victoria's Secret promo, or even a Dove "real women" Ad, as you will see signing autographs at the XBIZ Awards.
