In the MV Takeover’s promo reel, there’s this image of Goddess Helly wearing a mask. That got us intrigued, is there a fetish for masks?
And the answer is a definitive and obvious yes. Mask fetish is a thing.
By definition, mask fetish is when an individual derives sexual pleasure and arousal from either wearing masks and/or seeing others wearing masks.
This fetish may overlap with other types of fetishistic behavior. For example, people with clown fetishes will have a fetish for clown masks; furries will have a thing for animal masks. In your own words, can you describe what a mask fetish is?
My mask fetish is a manifestation of a number of different kinks but in general, masks are a powerful way to change yourself or your partner into something else. To fetishize them is to fetishize a form of transformation. Masks are ubiquitous and have a wide variety of meanings and connotations. I fetishize transformation and objectification, so when my partner is masked, the mask takes away their identity which I find very erotic. When I wear a mask, I too feel a change come over me that is actually quite liberating. Being someone or something else can be psychologically freeing and gives us a license to behave in ways we might not ordinarily when our face is exposed.
How did you get introduced to mask fetish?
My interest in BDSM and being attracted to dark imagery eventually brought me to explore using masks during my sessions. The first time I saw a woman in a latex mask was watching an Insex video many years ago. Here was this beautiful model made faceless and suddenly transformed into something that in my mind was even more alluring. She looked like a living sex toy. I had to see this for myself in the flesh so I made my way down to my local fetish store and went shopping.
Does mask fetish involve a specific type of masks? Or is it all kinds of masks?
Masks can vary quite a bit as far as material or the style and purpose for wearing it and fetishists all have their favorites. I'm a rubberist and I like hoods that tightly conform to the features of the wearers face. My fetish involves dehumanizing my partner and turning them into a doll or some kind of fembot or otherwise animated object. We are such vain creatures and faces make up so much of who we are. Taking that away from someone is a very powerful psychological tool in sessions involving power exchange, that really puts the subject into a submissive state. I like masks that take away a submissive’s individuality and make them feel under control. Gasmasks and hoods with blindfolds, gags and other accessories further transform the wearer, making them feel helpless and something less than human, which my partners and I find extremely hot.
Other than putting on a mask, what details are there in a mask fetish session?
When wearing latex masks, we always shine up before we play. During a masked play session we'll do any number of things that we might do otherwise from BDSM to simple fucking but the common theme involves objectification and transformation of some kind.
What are some precautions that one must take when doing mask fetish?
It’s important to take into account any breathing problems which may be exacerbated by wearing some kinds of masks. So if the person’s got a cold, it’s probably not going to feel very good to wear a tight latex hood. Same goes for any facial injury. Use common sense and go slowly when experimenting with different kinds of masks and bondage hoods, especially if they cover the mouth and nose or otherwise impair breathing.
Do you have a preference for certain masks?
Not only am I a mask fetishist but I also have a big thing for latex. Everything about latex is sexy to me; the smooth and slippery feel, the shine, the smell. It’s such a sensual experience to wear. Seeing others in tight, form-fitting latex hoods just hits me in all the right places.
What goes into a great mask fetish vid? Is it just wearing the mask? Or is there something else?
It’s hard to categorize a mask fetish video, since masks can be so different but for us, making a hot mask fetish video goes beyond just wearing a mask. I have a very, very bad mask fetish
drives me crazy. However, it always struck me as more of a dominant thing than a submissive thing. As in, the one who wears the mask is dominant. Masks give me a very 'uncanny valley' feeling and make me feel fear. 'Cause you don't know the intentions of the one behind it.
