The Best Way to Make a Great Logo

Learn how to make your brand shine!

Having a good logo is very important for any content creator. At least, every professional studio should have their own logo. It's also ideal a content creator can have an expensive lense with a shallow depth of field and optical zoom, the ability to shoot from multiple cameras and angels at the same time, luxurious apartments and backgrounds, the opportunity to have few people in frame, color correction, direction, storyboard and even plot. However, many of this things are almost unattainable if you're an amateur and need to do almost everything by your own. That's why having a good logo is important because it's the least expensive part of all the things that can make you look like a pro. It helps with the creation and positioning of your own brand. Even if your clip ends up being pirated and spread across the internet, your logo will let people know where your content is coming from.

That’s the reasons why creating a logo became one of the first things I did after I decided to shoot clips. I had a couple of requirements for my logo. It had to be:

1. Clearly visible on both dark and on light footage.

2. It should not be irritating and distracting for the viewer.

3. It should have some kind of design idea that correlates with my nickname.

4. In addition, it should not be too thin or because it would not be visible after image resizing like if I had to create a gif animation from a video, for example.

My first and unsuccessful experience was the logo that you can see on the top of my Tumblr page. I drew it myself with a slightly altered font I found on the internet. It turns out that this logo was actually awful because it can't be recognized when I paste it into my videos. Anyway, I left it on my Tumblr page as a memory. After that, I decided to appeal to professionals and pay a design studio for artwork. One week passed and they sent me three sketches. They were all terrible, as if a robot had drawn them, without any inspiration behind any of them. I asked studio to redraw my  logo. Another week passed and they sent me three more sketches that were just as awful as at the first time. I decided to stop working with this design studio. To their credit, all my money was returned.

Afterwards, I tried again with a freelance artist. She drew really well and made the avatar that you can see on my ManyVids profile and on my ASMR Youtube channel. Unfortunately,  as with many creative person, her productive period quickly turned into a depressed period. The weeks went by, the months went by, and I didn’t receive the logo I ordered from her. She started answering  my messages less often and then, predictably, she just disappeared without returning my money. I don’t really blame her, she had done a large amount of work for me, and failed just this last small task.

After going such a long way I decided to return to the beginning and sign up for a vector image course and ordered graphic tablet from Amazon. If you want to make something good, you should do it yourself, that’s what I was thinking. After not a long amount of time (a month or so) I was able to draw my current logo that you can see in my videos. There are three main versions of it: white, grey and black for different kind of footage. Maybe in the future, when this logo ceases to satisfy me, I'll draw another one, but right now I am totally fine with it.

If you read my goofy and chaotic article up to this point, here's a small, bonus lifehack: slightly modify colors in your logo and stick them everywhere you distribute content. If your content is pirated, you'll be able to discover where the leak came from by the style of your logo. Then you can implement measures to stop the piracy, like ceasing to upload your content on any compromised sites. Fortunately, these problems never happened with me on ManyVids. I hope it will continue in future.

Love the last paragraph thanks for that!

That is a GREAT bonus tip in your last paragraph. I've been "happy enough" with my logo for a while but am not design-minded enough to improve it. Thanks for sharing all this! Rose

Awesome article!

Wow this was a great article!

Our current challenge is making a logo for our films and photos, right now we just watermark our Manyvids link and call it a day. But every now and then we attempt to make a logo using a free template but it seems paying for a logo is the better way to go unless we get better at graphic design

You can hire a freelancer, it's really cheap for those things and logo makes all the difference to put some professional layer in our videos!

We'll look into it. Thanks.

Graphic tablet? I never knew there was such a thing. Thanks so much for sharing!!

Im really amateur and I've recently started using an actual software editor and a camcorder. I have no clue how to insert a watermark using filmora. If someone knows, please help! Im clueless about it

If you can add more than one video track than you can put your logo/watermarker as a image and adjust it to stay where you want.
