Brand Building

E3Kylee's tips!

MV Star E3Kylee shares a number of brilliant techniques, tips, and tricks for building your brand and producing vids:

So, you want to work from home, make enough to fund that lingerie/shoe fetish, pay the bills, support the kids, become an entrepreneur, and up the sex appeal... and you want it to be easy! Do you think that’s possible? If you aren’t sure, take a moment and pause. Go to the mirror, I want you to look at that woman or man staring back at you and repeat after me: “I am enough! I am badass! I AM SEXY!” Now, know this, it is possible to work from home as an entrepreneur, as a producer, and to supplement your existing income in such a savvy way that you never want for anything again.

But this takes work. It takes blood, sweat, and tears and smart business decisions. And as long as you either learn from the best (the masters) or school yourself (and learn from the best—you!), then you will be fine. But jumping into the world of vid producing feet first without testing the waters leaves a bitter sting when that water is ice cold or when you flop. Just do your research, and perform your own tests (i.e., marketing), learn from experience, and watch the magic happen (dollar signs adding up)!

The best piece of advice I can give new vid producers is summed up in a nice cozy acronym. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid. It’s not the most comforting advice with the added insult to injury, and it packs a punch, but it will always remind you to do the most important thing in the industry—keep it simple. No one wants to fast forward through seventy-five percent of their porno vid. They want quick cuts, a clearly outlined story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. The acting can and will suck, but it doesn’t have to be so intentionally fake and dramatic that the viewer feels insulted. And never, never lie to your customer. If you feel any inkling to try to get one over on a horny pervert just throw that right out the window right now. These men are experts in your field, and your company will thrive because of them. Become their best friend.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you even have to communicate with a single one. Whether or not to directly correspond with the client is a choice for every new model/talent, and it is definitely not required to run a successful business. If you do, you might find an opportunity to pick the brains of some of your biggest fans. This can be a great time (while they are asking you questions) to ask some of your own. An excellent place to start when interviewing a fan is to find out about the fetish itself from their perspective. What exactly do they look at or look for? What is it about the particular fetish that turns them on? And what is the beginning, middle, and end that they expect to find in every vid? Once you know the bare bones of what the client expects, you have the foundation for each and every vid that you produce. Then, the outfits, settings, lighting, and the toys/props are supplemented along with a new storyline to create a unique update each and every time.

So, what do I mean by fetish? Well, to start out, you’ll need to narrow down your niche. A niche is like a musical genre. To determine your niche or what particularly you will bring to the (porn) table, go back to the mirror. Take a look at yourself and think about what exactly it is about you that is sexually desirable. Try to see yourself from the eyes of the person who is sexually attracted to you. Do you have long legs? Are you a stoner, hippie chick who would fall under the category of “all natural”? (That’s a hot seller right now.) Are you a BBW (plus size)? (Another hot seller.) Are you trans, or gay? Do you like to twerk or dance? Then market that ass! Are you alternative, do you have tattoos? A keyword that might represent you would be “alt-slut.” Are you sweet, shy, or blonde? Try “girl next door.”

For me, I alternate between both alt-slut and girl next door! You might be interested in the BDSM community. If you are into bondage, domination, or some other kind of kink, you can use this to market yourself. It’s good for all models to decide whether they are dominant, submissive, or a switch (alternating between the two). Even if you don’t make BDSM vids, knowing this about yourself will assist in narrowing down your demographic (fan base) and will help you get to know who is buying your vids and why which will help you to make better content!

Making solid quality vids should always be your focus. If you make good content, the fan base will generate and even if most of your revenue doesn’t come from vid sales (such as if you do live camming for tokens or have retail sales on objects like panties), the fact that you make good quality content will keep your fan base steady and will ensure that you make consistent sales.

Image titleDetermining your niche is important because this will narrow down the actual keywords that you use to market your vids and to label your updates as you post. Hashtags are keywords, they are search terms that viewers can enter into the site's search bar or into Google to find the vids that best suit them. Essentially your niche determines your keywords (hashtags) which govern how and who finds you and your content. You have created a brand, and you aren’t necessarily selling sex, you are selling that undefinable quality, whatever it is that makes “you” sexy. Develop some consistency that revolves around who you are and what makes you unique is how you grow a brand.

The next step is to become an expert at shooting and producing. Lighting is key! Every vid you shoot should have excellent lighting, and EVERYTHING in the shot should be visible. Be mindful of keeping the scene clean and free of debris or clutter. Have top-notch equipment (which is available at affordable prices if you do your research).

I recommend a point-and-shoot HD 1080p video camera, external mic (optional), two light stands with a large fluorescent bulb and diffuser, tripod, SD XC memory card, high speed card reader, fairly new computer with ethernet connection, optional 4K webcam for live broadcasts, some lingerie or dancewear, a couple pairs of heels, pantyhose and fishnet stockings, optional green screen, furniture like a bed, chair, futon, sex toys, and quality graphics or video editing software. *Tip* I use Lightworks for video editing, they have an easy free trial with no watermark, and after the trial, you can still edit in 720p for free.

That should get you started. Remember to update frequently, use your hashtags and keywords to market your vid and link your profile to your social media (Twitter) accounts so you can keep your fans posted of your updates. Update on a regular schedule (weekends?) and keep vid descriptions short, sweet, and concrete. Get creative and really draw the viewer in with enticing dirty talk in your descriptions. And create .gif images and 30-second previews with your newfound editing skills. Just use a video editing software like Lightworks and an app that converts 30-second vids into .gif images. You can also create screenshots of vid by watching your vid in a media player like Windows and hitting “PrtSc” on the keyboard, then pasting your screenshot in the Paint app and saving it.

Image titleOnce you have a ten-minute vid saved, then a 30-second preview and a .gif image, you are ready to list your new vid with keywords and a description.

Also, be sure to organize everything on your desktop in a concise way by creating “new” folders and labeling them with the title of each vid, then saving your previews and vid files within their own respective folders. Staying organized will keep you from going crazy!

And finally, sign up for Google Analytics and follow the instructions to paste your analytics tracking ID every place that you post your vids. This will help you keep track of your site traffic and will allow you to follow the trends of your videos. You can use this along with your sales reports to best determine how and when to update.

Stay consistent with your updates and maintain quality in your production, and your fans will be making it rain in no time!

Thank you for catching that. So nice of you to say. Much appreciated.

As a fan, I totally applaud this article. I love clips and customs. The advice she is sharing is awesome. Nothing more assuring to a fan than ordering a custom or purchasing a clip from an artist that cares about their product. From stories to acting and onto props and equipment as well as taking a genuine interest in your client's direction, it's fantastic advice. Well written!

Btw, by the looks of some of your clips, you're much more than just an alt-slut or girl-nest-door type. I see some dominant humiliation fetish work in there that appears very intriguing!

Thank you for your comments. The feedback is so helpful and appreciated. I am still exploring my niche and determining the best fit for me, but the domination kink in me is strong!

Thank you for the tips! I am newer to Manyvids but have been in the adult industry for a decade. I'm always trying to learn and pick up new pieces of info. This is much appreciated

When you go to your menu and click "My content" and then "Upload vids" you will see "categories". Those are hashtags and keywords. Categories are the same thing basically.
