I got some amazing footage of my old cast being cut off in the cast clinic of a hospital. You can see me from the knees down as the nurse uses a saw to cut through the sides of my thick plaster cast, then uses safety scissors to cut through the cotton batting and cotton sock. She removes it and my broken leg is a little slimmer and less flexible. There is some pain around the ankle too. Then she puts on a new cotton sock and lots of padding, wrapping it around my thick calf. We talk in French a little about the process as it is happening. Then she adds many layers of plaster strips, dipping them in the water and then wrapping them around my leg all the way down to my toes and up to my knee. She folds the sock over the plaster and then adds a thick plaster L-shape to the bottom, as this is a walking cast, meant to bear weight. Finally she adds even more layers of plaster, covering the top of the sock and the bottom, and cleans the plaster from my toes. The nurse was not identified and the video was shot with her permission.
