The Cosmos, The Arrivals, Book 1, Chapter 6, Robyn: Thin Maillot • Small Hole • Lost Memory , Day 1, Section 2, Robyn: Arrives via the Front Door… with Memory Issues? ¶ The Front Door Cam catches only a fleeting blur as Robyn sashays through the doorway. She doesn’t ring the chime, and she makes sure the Cam doesn’t follow her in. {Might there exist any prohibitions against using the Front Door, or if the front Parlor and Living Room are off-limits to Pledge, there is no reason for me to know about them. I am a newbie Pledge, after all.} ¶ Gamers wince. ¶ Has Robyn been here before? Is she familiar with this place? Is this the same Robyn who was a Cosmos Pledge last Term, who was Roommates with Steph? Certainly Babs will be able to make a positive identification, even though Robyn might not. ¶ If a returning Robyn had memory she would find the Parlor inside the Front Door familiar. Two windows look out over the Front Porch, two more windows straddle a fireplace and look out onto the side of the Porch, and a massive staircase ascends upward to the second floor. There is a door underneath the stairway that Robyn might remember as a small Washroom with only a toilet, a sink, and a mirror. A short hallway heads from the Parlor past the Washroom toward the door into the Kitchen; Robyn doesn’t advance to test if it opens. ¶ Robyn takes a parting glance up the main staircase; any Pledge who dares sneak up would encounter a landing with locked doors leading to places about which most Pledge know little or nothing. Something about looking up and away from the stairs makes Robyn imagine the rooms upstairs. {Except I’ve never been her before. And even if I had been, it doesn’t count.} ¶ Perhaps this Robyn has no memories of any secret passage connecting the upstairs landing to the Monitor’s private bathroom, which would (should it actually exist and if Babs even knows about it) enable a Monitor to pass messages, secretly entertain visitors, or exit and enter unnoticed. ¶ An assumption leaks from Robyn’s black hole back into the present. I shall be the Monitor’s Roommate this Term! I don’t know why, but that’s the most important place here! For a Pledge, anyway. ¶ Robyn moves to her left and passes easily into the Living Room, which occupies the left front of the House, as seen from the street. She looks out the bay window across the Front Door and Porch, down the front steps, across the yard and toward the sidewalk, the street, and the Houses beyond, on the other side of the street. ¶ Robyn backs into the center of the room and gives herself a final check. The stretch fabric maillot is taut; her leglines aren’t riding up, and it isn’t cheeking her rump, wiggling into her crack, or cameltoeing her intimate parts. Robyn checks to make sure her buttonhole is spot on, and she thumbs the maillot’s elastic around the top of her rig so the strapless neckline holds firm. She exposes just the tiniest bit of cleavage. ¶ {I Pledge the Cosmos with a strong opening position. And I’m convinced that my promotion to Monitor next Term is ensured. I am here to be carried upward.} Robyn takes a deep breath, strides toward the sliding double doors at the back of the Living Room, and pushes them apart so she can prance into the Dining Room.
