A girl comes to the emergency room with chest pain and tightness and difficulty breathing. She lies down on the couch as the doctor begins to monitor her heart. The heartbeat is irregular and slight fibrillation is noted. The doctor decides to use the defibrillator to re-stabilize the heartbeat. But the girl goes into cardiac arrest. She is revived shortly after, but the heartbeat does not return to regular, in fact it becomes even more irregular, until she goes into cardiac arrest again. This time there are several cycles of compressions, defibrillations and ambu bagging. The girl recovers a second time, but she doesn't stabilize this time either and shortly after she has a third cardiac arrest. The doctor takes longer to recover, but eventually, after heavy compression, bagging, and defibrillation, her pulse returns. The girl seems stable even if the heartbeat is not quite regular. To be continued ...
