Cowboy’s been acting out all afternoon—left his boots by the door again, dragged gravel over my freshly swept kitchen tiles, and ignored my gentle reminders with that wide, foolish grin he knows gets under my skin. When he flops on the bed, expecting a lazy evening and a reprieve from consequence, I decide it’s time to teach him a lesson. But not with words; I want it to sink in deeper. I want him to remember to listen. He’s splayed out, face buried in the pillow, when I straddle his hips and press my palm firmly over his mouth. There’s a moment of surprise, then muffled protest, but I shush him with a soft stroke to his hair. My hand is warm, but his breath is hotter against my skin. When he tries to inhale through his nose, I pinch his nostrils shut, slow and deliberate, just to watch the shudder run from his neck down his spine. He bucks, but he’s not really fighting me; he’s testing the boundaries, seeing how much I’ll take from him, how long I’ll draw the line.Every time he starts to squirm for air, I ease off just enough to let him catch a breath—a controlled mercy. His heartbeat drums frantic against my thighs, and he’s learning that resistance is just another form of giving in. I whisper reminders in his ear, things like, “You’ll remember to do as I ask next time,” and “This is for your own good, Cowboy.” The more I repeat it, the more his body softens under me.I let him breathe, then I take it away. I cycle it until his arms go slack, his hands clutching at the sheets, and his whole body trembles with anticipation. When his lips part in a silent gasp, I wrap my arm around his neck and slip my forearm under his jaw, settling into the rear naked clench he taught me last winter by the fire, laughing. Now there’s nothing playful about it; it’s all consequence, slow and heavy and certain. His eyes roll back, lashes flutter, and every muscle in his body tenses before yielding. I hold him tight, not enough to hurt, but enough to remind him whose hands he’s in.
