New: Upload Improvements

Great new updates!!

Jul 6 2019 108 comments 12,349

ManyVids owes it to the whole MV Community to be constantly on the cutting edge, to always be on top of it, to forever be in motion, and to constantly be updating our platform so that it’s the absolute best for our MV Stars at all times.

Our latest update streamlines and improves our vid uploading process so that MV Stars have an even easier time getting their amazing content up on MV. Now you can edit the info of a vid before its Preview, GIF and Thumbnail are ready, no more waiting around! You can get them set up the way you want by clicking <Edit Info> on each vid that’s processing on the Upload page, and you can do it for multiple vids too.

Here are some other key features you can count on with this update:

  • All vids will be converted to MP4 format to ensure compatibility across all devices!
  • Vid files will be compressed and optimized to ensure a faster download speed for MV Members (up to 60% reduction in file size)!
  • Youll notice a reduction in failure of vid transcoding!

Also, as an added layer of caution to be sure you have your content optimized, in order to schedule a release date, the process of creating a Preview, GIF and Thumbnail needs to be completed so that the option to schedule the vid becomes available.

We’re always going to be tweaking our platform and making it a better experience for you.

Always here to help.

I want to make sure that our brand new 4K content will be 4K for our fans!

I think this could bring even greater video quality to file size ratio if you recommend to MV Stars to upload the uncompressed version of their vids. Then a proper encode will be done on the MV backend. That way MV Stars don't have to be tech savvy and deal with the hassle of finding optimal encoding settings which is quite hard.

Slamdunkz Jul 2019

This is a terrible idea. If you guys do anything to the quality of the videos different to what the content creators intended, I will stop buying content off this site and support the creators I do in an alternative method.

annaxnasty Jul 2019

hi, I was wondering why is that the pics can be just 5MB? it would be awesome if you could improve that so we can share more awesome pics to our followers<3

gtfan200 Jul 2019

As a customer I'm not a fan of this. I've read a few of the other comments and have to say I agree with them.

Esovir Jul 2019

So in other words when I purchase a 4K video it won't be 4K because.... file size? Me and other members know that 4K files are big and take longer to download and I'm pretty sure we're all ok with that. We buy those files for the quality not the convenience. I swear a lot of these recent "improvements" are kinda shady.

So, just to be clear, ManyVids is now going to take the files that I upload, all of which I already compressed when encoded in h264 from the original ProRes 422, and add ANOTHER layer of compression?  Any reason why you all insist on just springing updates on the community, without (at least from what I can see) ANY community feedback?

SophieShox Jul 2019

The gif preview images are now to big for twitter aswell.  I liked it the old way.  I uploaded a video of 509mb and it has compressed it to 345mb.

This is a drastic mistake. As a customer, I expect 4K when I buy 4K from my favorite models. Don't short change the models' investments into HD and 4K media via compression. If we want faster quality, offer multiple sizes for the same video rather than separate videos for each size... If Netflix and YouTube can accommodate this way, then it's not impossible for Manyvids as well.Thank you for your time, but no thank you for this update. I will be purchasing from my favorite models elsewhere (like Amateur Porn) until you roll back this change.

Can you guys ask the models on your site if we like ideas or do beta testing before springing updates on us? I would like to feel included in decision making on things that affect my business. Especially since you say you value your stars so much it would be great to be included in these decisions.

strawberryshortcak3

Especially because we can all agree we would rather have long upload times and high quality videos over low quality videos for "faster upload times"

This is not an update. As someone who doesn’t have the best quality content because I only have my phone - this will make things even worse. You’re going to be getting a lot of models not uploading until this changes

I wouldn't worry about that :) You don't do any compression before uploading, so your vids per-frame size is about 5 times higher than mine are when I publish them. If you are shrunk by only 60% max, you still will be rocking a very high bitrate, more than twice of what I publish at (and I keep my quality high). I doubt you will notice a difference in quality, but your buyers will appreciate the smaller download size.

compression isn't a bad thing, if it's done well you won't notice it. Its just over-compression that's a problem, or compressing a video twice. That's the main concern about this update, compressing if you already do it yourself - but you, and others who upload from phones and/or don't compress, are in the best position. This update is great for people uploading who don't compress first.

All professional adult website use compression (even on 4k content), it's industry standard and important.

I would rather have long upload times than low quality videos. Why don't you EVER let us know when updates like this are happening? You'd have saved a lot of time and money if you had asked both models and customers if this is something they wanted. I'm extremely disappointed and don't want to continue to upload content on MV if the quality is going to be so poor. We never asked for this. Please start involving us. Actions like this make me feel like you don't care about your models.

I am concerned about my 60fps videos (all of them). 60fps video needs ~twice the bitrate to account for double the frames per second over standard 30fps video.

Is the encoder going to account for frame rate to make smart choices to the bitrate? If not, all the 60fps content on the site will suffer double the compression over same resolution 30fps video.

I won't be uploading any new videos until this changes.

I put hours into filming and making my videos as clear as they can be, compressing it will ruin the quality! I’m unhappy about this update. I’d rather wait full time for upload, if it means my content will have the best quality.

I don't want my video quality reduced please remove the compression or allow us to opt out. I'd rather wait longer for my video to upload in its original format.

dannixkush Jul 2019

What about those of us that already pre compress and upload in .mp4 format? I go through extra steps like these to ensure file size while using programs to keep my videos as high quality as possible.. I would rather spend an hour down sizing my video than to upload it here full sized and deliver my customers with low quality videos after ive invested money to make the highest resolution possible that i can..

Maybe having an option for videos that are not already encoded..

TinyToni Jul 2019

I feel like almost everyone will agree that we rather have longer uploading/processing times than we would lower quality videos. This is extremely upsetting especially as someone who has to use their mobile for content creating which already has limits on how high the quality can be

zaifer
zaifer deleted Jul 2019

As a buyer, I completely dislike this update. Your "compressed/optimized" re-encoding is lowering the quality of the videos of the MV Stars I follow. You can "optimize" videos for when streaming the video directly from MV, but if I want to download the original video, I don't want a compressed/optimized re-encode that's lowering the quality of the videos I'm purchasing.

Instead of being "on the cutting edge" and "updating our platform so that it’s the absolute best for our MV Stars at all times" you guys are doing the complete opposite, you guys are doing a disservice to them. You are moving in the wrong direction here, this is a downgrade, and you need to make sure you make this right to both MV buyers and MV Stars.

You need to allow your MV buyers a way to get the original videos from the MV Stars and not your "compressed/optimized" re-encode which is lowering the quality of the videos.

umbramaster
umbramaster deleted Jul 2019

Can you list the compression algorithm? It's one thing to compress streaming videos, and it's another to decrease the quality of all videos, especially on download. If I download a video, I want the original high-quality. Reducing the quality is detrimental to producers and consumers. If this goes through, I won't be buying from MV anytime soon.

ImMeganLive Jul 2019

I don't really agree on forcing all videos to be re-encoded by default. I agree that those not optimized shall be. But in my case, I already re-encode all of my videos with HandBrake in maximum compression without quality loss. If all my videos will now be optimized on top of what I've already done, means that all my new videos will have a very crapy quality!
I really really hope that there is a check before forcing the optimization and it's not done by default on all!
Why not re-encode them in multiple lower resolution for the customer to choose from when streaming or downloading, but the default upload stay as is or as an add-on.

NTRSFNCH Jul 2019

Is this h.265? What’s the bitrate? Will the encoded bitrate scale with resolution?

We don't know yet, they haven't released any technical info. You can be sure it'll be h.264 for compatibility though :)

Not what I want as a customer, I want to buy the original file not some re-encoded file at a lesser quality. Disappointing.

I am not at all happy about these new changes :( I do not want the quality of my videos reduced under the guise of “faster downloads”

I am extremely disappointing at this. Again changes without any heads up, feels like MV is not considering models perspectives. Please give us the option to opt out of compression. I will not compromise my work. I may not be a top model but my efforts are just as valuable as any model. Thank you hope MV finds it in their heart to open up to our concerns.

Can you please make it optional?! It will help those who need their videos compressed but won’t compromise the quality for creators who compress their videos already!

I truly feel bamboozled and feel my fans are at risk of being bamboozled!  Why was there no warning that you would be doing this?  Do you have any *active* and I mean ACTIVE sex workers on a consult team that you talk to prior to coming up with these updates that destroy our hard work in what looks like attempts at pinching pennies?.  We know that storage is expensive, but if we're bleeding you dry because of file size, TELL US.  You're the number one clip store, but you know people are upset at your lack of transparency and seemingly out of touch nature with what it entails to be a content creator....

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'}
Fans of 4k content want 4k content because of the quality, not because of the file size.  As of writing this, a fan commented 9 hours ago saying exactly this.  They know that 4k content is larger.  You could have offered us the ability to use your compression services for a file over 5GB, but you didn't.  You could've issued a release stating that unfortunately due to costs and overloaded servers, you have to reduce file size of uploads - when I signed up nearly five years ago the max was 3GB and as I recall you raised with no notice.  You could've spun it as a way for there to be less site failures, but you didn't.

Are you going under financially so quickly that you have to disguise a clear issue with server costs as a benefit, because that's truly how it feels.  No, not everyone has large files, but those of us who do, have business because we do.  If it is someone's first time buying from me and they are anticipating UHD 4k quality they do not receive, how does that make me or you any more money to pay for the storage fees?

I really wish you had warned us and set a maximum file size the site CAN accommodate, so we could at least learn to do it ourselves so that it is our work fans see, not yours.  Please get your top earners from top categories in on a panel to talk about what creators really need because this just feels selfish and not creator focused.  I feel like I can't upload 4k to you guys now and am unsure if my 1080p files will be okay, since I shoot in 4k.  My editing team will waste hours uploading and downloading new content now over the course of this week to try to see if my content is my content when I post it here.  That hurts.  Please make this opt in, tell us what size we need to be, and talk to your MV Stars about the issues of creators and the site that can be improved.

scheamgrand Jul 2019

As a buyer I hate this. If I am buying a 4K video, I don't care about the file size or how long it will take. I want it at the best possible quality.

Also MP4 is ok but I'd rather have an option to my file type. Personally I prefer MOV MUCH MORE than mp4.

So overall this is off putting to me. And makes me not want to buy high quality videos. 😑

KerimB Jul 2019

Yeah I agree, don't compress the videos... we're spending good money which ManyVids greedily takes a good cut of, now you're going to screw us all over by degrading the video quality.

You claim to optimise streaming an increasing download speeds, but to me it just sounds like an excuse to increase your own profits through less data usage. >:(

Maybe we should suggest they just do download options like a lot of sites do?

'Original' - 'High' - 'Medium' - 'Low'

If someone has trouble with the original, they can just download one of the MV encoded ones.

Arikajira Jul 2019

Faster upload speeds sound amazing!  The struggle has been real to put any longer vids up!

I don't think this is supposed to make the upload speed any better, sorry :) I think the "streamlining" is just letting us enter video details before the upload is complete. You'll still be limited to your connect speed for upload.

CamGirlJade
CamGirlJade deleted Jul 2019

Thank you! :)

Is there any way we can opt out of compression? Many of us already encode our videos to be the highest possible quality at a reasonable file size, and I'm worried about quality loss if our videos are compressed further.

Phew, well, I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned! I hope MV sees there are enough of us already doing this and possibly only apply this re-encoding to videos over a certain bitrate for the resolution. Like a catch for those of us that have done the work already.

I'm not sure if they would be further compressed though, I imagine if they are small enough they would just keep the bitrate as it was (hopefully?). But, the concern I'm having is the re-encoding. When you encode, you should always do it from the high quality raw files. Encoding from an already compressed video (which is what would happen to our vids now), even if it's kept at the same bitrate, reduces the quality of the video.

But for now, you will have to produce your vids for upload at a much higher bitrate so they will look as good as they can after MV's encoding (which is hopefully a quality encode, not a fast one).

im really interested how it will work - keep up the good work!

Does the automatic change to MP4 have any effect on the meta-data shared? Fixing that extreme privacy issue should have been the first step, not making downloads easier, or changing the way we put info in.

I could not agree more that meta-date issue should be their main priority.

Is this new update why I can no longer upload my custom preview via mobile? :(

masp1234 Jul 2019

Amazing! 🥰

Well... crap.

I do this all myself, and I really don't want my videos compressed beyond what they already are. Now I'll have to upload them at a higher quality to avoid the quality being badly crunched, and that'll take a much longer time.

This really should be optional for those of us who know what we are doing with compatibility and bitrate etc.

Additionally:
What profile are the .mp4's going to be using? Baseline?
What is the target bitrate?
Will the frame rate be effected?

For those of us who already compress, I hate the idea of having my video quality lowered by a second sweep of compress and/or re-encoding. I worry that many here aren't aware of what this truly means.

It's great if your a producer who doesn't understand about compression and compatibility, but those of us who already compress to a minimum acceptable bitrate for quality are going to have a reduction in quality due to the re-encoding and possible further compression.

YES, exactly. I'm encoding my videos the way I want them to be viewed, and I worry about the artifacting that may occur when further compressed.
and I also have these same questions about profile and bitrate

Neobscura Jul 2019

I'm both concerned by that change and welcoming it. The sweetspot is having transcoding profiles adapted to resolution and original bitrate... I hope they get it right. I hate having to wait an entire day to download a video which is 4x the filesize it should be, but I also love when models get it right and it's light AND super crisp... We'll see...

Totally agreed! I'm all for stripping metadata (even though many of us - myself included - already do so ourselves), but compression should really be optional. I encode my videos to ensure both quality and compatibility, and I worry that further compression will affect the quality of my videos.

Agreed, this is a good change for most. I'm sure it's very frustrating to buy vids that are much larger than they should be because they are basically whatever files the phone or camera spat out.

I hope that they can automatically allow the encoding to be skipped if they detect the file is already compressed enough, and h.264 .mp4 for compatibility.

I think that means better quality and convenience across the board for everyone.

ManicMomo Jul 2019

Thank you!

Awesome,

What is the target bitrate for the videos once they are converted? Should we export at higher quality so the conversion doesnt show any compression fraying and stuff? Glad to see the updates! thank you!

It's not the official word, but I would definitely triple the bitrate of your usual upload to avoid the worst effect of the this extra pass of encoding.

It would be nice if we knew what the target bitrate is, though! Easiest way I guess would be to download my next and see for myself :)

That´s a good one!

💖💖💖

That's handy as heck~ Thank you :) Would be nice if we had the option to disable generating a preview and thumbnail to save even more time when we have our own prepared for it. Also the preview generator on iwantclips is another great thing to look at, being able to make previews straight on the site would save SOOO much time and make previews for all videos much more appealing. Just something to think about.

Nice 🥰

Biggest thing I struggle with is getting a 20min 1080p video under 5gb. Editing info doesn't matter that much.

Seline069 Jul 2019

You have to shrink the file is the only way I’ve learned

SacredBooty
SacredBooty deleted Jul 2019

it's absolutely possible - try using an export format like H264 and limit the bitrate to under 12 MBit/s - it should be well below 5gb!! Feel free to message me if you need editing / exporting help!

Use HandBrake to compress the video. I use the recommended settings and it seems fine. Just make sure the framerate and stuff is the same as the source. Also making the audio mono will save a few MB :P

What about metadata?

I would scrub it first just to be safe. You can do it in windows if you right click on the video, go to details, and click on the "remove properties and personal information" thing.

Oh I know how to do it. But not everyone does.

CelesteSin Jul 2019

Heck yeah!! I noticed a ReUpload feature in the Edit Vid page, will that be working soon?

I would also love to see this feature brought back as well! :)

CelesteSin Jul 2019

It was there the last couple days with no option to actually re-upload anything and it's gone today. I'm thinking that means they're working on it?

This may be helpful to some people but in my experience with other sites where you can edit details of a video before it finishes uploading hasn't been the best because sometimes the video uploading fails and you just wasted a bunch of time entering in the details only to have to do it again. Some changes I would absolutely LOVE yo see would be the option to skip generating a preview and thumbnail since it takes so long and many of us use our own thumbnails and previews. I would also love to see MV start stripping any personal data that could be in the content we upload for everyone's safety. <3

Also, just some additional things, when uploading a video we have different options to make the video included in our memberships, only available to the person who ordered the video and to make it available only outside of our memberships. This is located at the bottom of the page and if a different option is selected it wipes out things entered previously like the price. It is mildly inconvenient to have to go back and re-enter things and I imagine some people don't notice and end up having their video listed at a price they didn't intend to. Just throwing things out there if you're looking to improve the upload feature. <3
